“Facebook is testing a system to let users publish updates that go to the entire internet, select groups or even single individuals, instead of being sent to everyone they have added as friends — in what seems like the latest attempt to mimic a feature of rival social network Twitter.”
They´re finally getting it. This is exactly what my ericson project was emphasizing.
new land
arrived to a rainy Munchen, caught up with Matthias and headed off to a very nice terrace for a birthday party. nice surprise, i tried to capture some on film but at 200 iso it gets ghosty. i’m off for a little walkaround the area. the place where i live lehel is really beautiful actually, architecture wise I imagine it parisesque and although everybody thinks I’m german, the follow up in english is good. and i’m catching up on the phrases. have to learn 5 words a day. for 180 days that’s 800 words.
i just found some screens from tim burton’s new film ‘alice in wonderland’. recasting his Todd, with another splash of fantasy. actually it looks more like elijah wood..
semi circle
Haven´t travelled far but I´m still on the jetlag. And the week has been flying like a jet itself. It´s now only three days left in Norway before I head off for my first internship, which will be in Munich. I have this ambivalence living in a country which native language I am quite the stranger too. I say this because I have had a lasting impression while growing up that there is a resistance to talk English, but I hope to be proven wrong. In any case, I am gonna try my best to catch up on the local sayings and add it to my personal literary harddisk, (currently interested in upgrading for RAM).
Otherwise, I am excited about the new apartment and living with Matthias, new people, and everybody I will meet overall. Munich looks quite cool, and Bavaria I know has quite stunning landscapes.
I have yet not started with the logistics around gear and what to carry along. You learn after a lot of travelling that going light is the ultimate! It´s been quite busy along the fronts here, I am still working hard on the album design, at a meticulous scale, as what will be released has the full potential of becoming a “treasure in the music world”. I truly hope so. There are so many hours behind it from my part, and from the music artist himself. We are very pleased with the current design, and think we´ve nailed it. Some images will be added as it is released but I don´t want to leak anything out now.
As of the latest, it´s midsommar, and quite the celebration for our fellow Swedes. My friends and I were invited to some Swedes here in town, the weather authorities gave us only some dark clouds, so nasty! I decided to drive in, drop the beer, and just say hello. Glad I did. Half the peeps there are gonna come down to Munich in Oktober and run some glasses. A good friend, Eivind will move to Mannheim and as such be my “neighbour”. All those guy trips I´ve felt out of, and now the super destination is Munich. It should be fun!
It´s a challenge to be away, but gosh it will be good to see little poet one of these summerdays! Still don´t know the dates, but understand it´s been tricky to plan.
This blog will maybe go down this fall. I have plans to start all over, with a blog linked to my website, not sure about it yet.
I don´t think I would ever be pleased with my contribution frequency for the blog, it must be a dedicated affair. I probably only write 20 % of what I actually intend to.
The other issue is that it becomes this diaristic thing, and perhaps it´s better for me to do it for myself only. I don´t always know what difference it really matters for anyone except me and my girlfriend.
Carpe Diem!
narnian

found some old images from new zealand just now. how awkward to find this, yet intriguing what trip this was.
the ladies

an amazing relationship I´ve been so happy to witness the last month. miss you guys so much!
Still in need of so much sleep. Drove all the way from Umeå to Oslo last night, and tomorrow morning I need to get up at 5 to drive dad to the station. Very strange to be here home now. I feel like just driving on some into the wild adventure.
weekend in stockholm

scanning a lot of frames before my time runs out. It´s sad to leave Umeå so soon, I´d be really ready for that camping trip..

A photographic passion for noir and the candid and expressive is reborn. I wanna print this and sign it.

Today is the best day to be Norwegian in Norway. In Sweden, one can still get excited, and in Finland, well it is almost like one forgets what to celebrate, but in the presence of the right company, on an escapade from the rather predictable surroundings, things can look quite amazing. That was exactly a year ago, an excursion for brighter nights and on Norway´s national day I went to Haparanda in Finland with Anna. It was a trip unlike no other, because it is this desolate and devious place, with a mystic tower, odd signs, great hamburgers, and a hotel of sorts. The trip is half the destination, because it takes so long too, and when you can sit on the second floor, front seat panorama and journey through all of northern Sweden, life is curiously interesting.
That time of the year there was a future unwritten in all ways, much because I did not know whether I would pursue a master or not, and if so, if it would be in Scandinavia. Tons of questions, and those only a few of.
This time around we are so much better acquainted together, we have navigated some tough waters and things have generally been good. Sometimes I get a bit afraid of certain reactions, to I´m glad (most times)things that do not involve me, but I get a little scared nonetheless. I see a wonderful person, and that is the core. I do not know the future, but I grew up with the ocean, and so the ocean( an internal metaphor) has bonds of great measure.
We are confronted with both of us leaving Umeå the next year. So it seems at least. We both need it. It will still involve a lot of travelling I think, to the best we can. On the other side, we can spend more time professionalizing our roads. I really want Anna to get to a better working environment. Too often it seems the commanders of the clinic mess up her schedual and abuse the state of learning a new department. Whether she ends up in Norway or not I feel like she is worth so much better. If I could choose I would perhaps have settled my education business in Umeå, but I will have to return to finish my master degree. Right now I only know that I´m going to live in Germany for half a year. Now who would have foresighted that? In any case, it seems the destination for very many UID alumni, surprisingly many. So that must say something about the design scene.
To get back to this beautiful day today. We have had the most amazing weather, eaten delicious meals and cuddled with each our pet. Sebastian got some diamond tuna today, may he be a proud Norwegian. To regrets there has been no available flags, but it feels totally right to not have spent the whole day ona journey to get to Norway, but instead sinked in at the balcony to the glory of light and enjoying the culinary of summer and good company with friends.

been so lucky to utilize a coolscan scanner this afternoon. nothing short of an addiction.
also tried out the leica, and fell in love. so i suppose if anyone is interested in a sweet d200 body with lots of lenses, i am keen to make the shift soon. anyhows, shooting wide and fast with the olympus is the current passion, and it works as long as it is with people i know, and if i don’t know them it is a neccesity with ambient sound that beats that loud mirror. the sound of the leica is pure beauty.

the eminent moustache
taking to account that this last week we’ve been working with personnas of highly memmorable facial signatures such as stylistically curved moustaches, and common observation may be that the beholders of such statements are very imaginative figures.
mr. dali would no doubt be my favourite “comic strip” artist.
skip the first 15 seconds of perhaps misleading introduction. dali is brilliant and beyond..
I have been photographing the students from UID again, this time all the 120 + students, which is much more demanding the graduating students, although it is not confined to the same kind of deadlines.
It’s lots of fun, for sure. The current images on the school website is a spice soup with all kinds of ingredients. I’m also experimenting in post, but a chosen white always assures clean. Next week I will finish up the MA’s and the one year courses. Should go even better. I kind of digg’ed the feel of this image, and played with some gradients. It feels FRESH & *

Before the fire and after the ice
It’s that time of the year. The legendary halloween party has bounced rumour around and it is a climax of sorts to say the least. There is ambition to make Christmas festivities rock even louder.
I have decided to abandon digital in the party itself and shot some heavy 3200 iso stuff. I am eagerly awaiting some snaxy rolls from the beginning of this school year. This is the new APD class. They got a real interesting atmosphere, was really obvious that this varied in some of the shoots. Anyways, loved it, and don’t regret that it’s been taking a lot more of my time than expected.

the max ernst typeface
This fall I remember seeing an ad that had some substance to it – inititated by the “Moderna Museet” in Stockholm , the brief was to create a typeface and a Max Ernst headline inspired by the artist’s work. The typeface could be created in any format, such as vector, watercolor, 3d, or sculpture.
This September In Hamburg, I was lucky enough to see a Max Ernst exhibition, over a 100 prints of an exquisite, brilliant artist, before closing time, and a rushed state of catching the train back to Denmark. I think after that he remains one of the most prominent inspirations, within the form of surrealism.
I say that to introduce the artist because it would be nice to compliment the newly invented font with some of that current work.
As regarding the font, I just found out that the winner was selected, namely Thea Hamrén, who happens to be an a Hyper Island alumni. Whatever her process, she somehow did the true time travel, applied the relevant tools, and tried to put her mindset in a Max Ernst approach. I love what she came up with.

Melodic Tunes by Sten – nice tunes.
I´m scanning a good load of images this weekend. Then Tuesday I´m off to home sweet home in Oslo.
From this fall, with Sten at Skogis.

Words have been missing.
Writing tonight in from Umeå, before Anna and I leave to Norway for a little timeout. It feels slightly weird right now, since I´m leaving a snowfilled landscape to an anticipated `washed out`terrain. So I´m really hoping the weather would be a little more generous. We´ll have to wait and see. The folks that have opted out for staying around in bubbled reality of the far north, can fancy some nice wintersporting. On the other side (literally), when thinking about Marcos, my roomie, who is now possibly drinking caipirinha on the beaches of Brazil with a silhouette rich sunset, was not a bad idead of him either. Little chat noir is now waiting to greet him after he now has to stay around for the holidays in umeå.
This weekend Anna and I finally got to chill beaucoup, just making waffles, drinking gløgg, and immersing ourselves on cinematic adventures (some less stretchy than others though). We watched “neverending story” and – how in the world can one miss that film as an infant? I guess that´s one of the bieffects on growing up on a series of islands.
I´ve also tried to fiddle with my website a little more, I´ve realized the unfinished version I released could give some unintended signals, since I´m trying to marry so many fields of creation. I will come up with something very clean and consistent, and it has to be html as updates will be a feature.
Mr. Tao is too kind to borrow me the coolscan, its great, but very tardy. It takes you back in time, such as the legendary ubc nights, of which frames follow.
Peter and Pelle tune in some fine electro, and smoke fires out to dance-aholics, including my programme leader from last year. The music just goes into your blood and you can´t stop it. It looks like for the guy on the right the intake was quite physical. Some weird stuff on the neg.

This was shot with Annas 50mm. I´m dying for some 1.2 love, but I still have to keep waiting.

monsieur Pelle… If I could go back to this night I would, even if it meant starting all over with the komatsu interaction project.
all frames were pulled two frames. perhaps needless to say :p if you want to learn more about the event here is the blog

The Darkest evening in Umea, Sweden. Around 2 the sun was out of sight and before three it was already pitch black. It´s the final station.
Wish you a peaceful and enjoyable Holiday! Time to go!

Australia
December is such a far away station, so to speak. We try to compensate for the light missing, and tie events of celebration close to another, to define a turn, a change, and a remembrance.
Most often at this time, many of us have had the privilege to escape the cirvumenting seasonal muteness. I think this year, one option was a dive into a story, which depends on on nothing other than a cinema. Little of it there has been as of lately, and therefore it is with great pleasure, we chose to watch Australia – the film. Imaginative, poetic, and convincing story, that really triggered some emotional side of us.
Told by the little aboriginy, the outcast, the creamy who makes this movie what it is.
the year 2008. and london
Will be in London over the next days with Anna. It will be the first new years eve in a city of that scale. Will bring my holga this time around.
In any case, chances of giving a flashback of a lifechanging year are only here now, before leaving.
The story of us.

Lunch in Sonderborg at Mads Clausen.

Reunion in Oslo with good friends. On our way to a surprise party.
In some way, celebrating Annika´s completed Master Degree in Interaction Design. Her friend came over for the Graduation show, and we made amazing sushi.

The Borg Character, in the Olympic Genre of “Big Balls”.

Angel contemplates in the most beautiful westcoast of Norway.

The first and probably last show at Oslo Fashion Week. Freaked me out.

Anna in the Jewish Quartier in Krakow, listening to a downtempo Roisin Murphy, with rich personalities in the bar.

Timeout on a beach somewhere over the Atlantic.

Snap from Monaco, in between conferences about 3d techologies.

since 1984
Hello. I´m a softspoken blogger, for the very reason that education projects consume me up, and it is hard to find the peace and right drive to input on what I would like to. Half the posts here are kinda improvised and I try to let images talk by themselves, sometimes as little pops of surprises, because life has a lot of those.
The interaction designers staged in a video sequence for our professor who will now retire, (he deserves a lot of praise), and gosh, do I always get unnatural in front of a camera. Looking back at when I photographed the whole school that is quite the irony. My eyes are bloodballs, but we all went in one go, so I did not want to delay it. You never say all you want to. You forget. What I would like to thank Mike Stott for is that being in umeå in the overall picture is one large lifechanger, and it gave me the chance to be close to somebody so beautiful as Anna. I think Umeå has been such a vital part of my life, in scale with new zealand and switzerland, but in this case because of the people only. Now why does that always happen outside your own country only?

onesize

Onesize updated their reel. They way they kick this off is DELIcate! The treatment of sound design and its correlation is perhaps the most interesting. I know they depend on their clients, but I do wish they had excluded the commercial appearance in the reel. Could be legislation for its promotion.. I dunno. But nonetheless very much worth looking at.

patience is still the virtue.

Entering now the world of music with a less blurry perspective. Last night I was playing with the korg play at the workshop. Ive been meaning to dig into the audio landscapes beyond just listening, and wanted to compile some stuff together one day. They are echoes of a dream once held. The discovery was more like when you start with photoshop and layers, you understand the possibilities. The creation of music today seems to be much the same. And it is only when you investigate a little more to understand the nuances of talent. It does not take much to be good, but it takes so much more to be really good.

Will be back blogging soon. I am stressed out at the moment. Got loads of new film to organize. Special lady she is. And we both are obsessed with mini coopers.
Happy up here
Norway´s electro duo Royksopp is back with new material; and now they continue the shatter from “only this moment” into explosives. Wow! Well, I´m still a big admirer of their music.

At FH Würzburg they have created a prototype of a much softer type of touchscreen , which they´ve labelled impress. It works with the parameters position and time like other touch screens as well, but in addition to that, it reacts, above all, on the intensity of pressure. What this adds to sketch capabilities is f.ex the ability to model in 3d space with pure gestures, although at a more basic level. It´s also quite interesting how this affects the interface when it is used as an instrument for composing sounds, as it adds gravity in more than just flat space.
“The user can merge in and collaborate with technology more than ever. He can squeeze out information and fly through rooms, he can form three-dimensional and put objects in motion by deforming the surface. Four short applications allow an insight into an absolutely new world of deeply sensitive and intuitive interaction possibilities.
Created with Arduino and Processing.”

The author has submitted some useful documentation as well.
Fancy footwork
A glimpse of the most crazy parties in Sweden. UBC hosted their second last official even last week, and will play again in april, but come on, they´ve reached the umeå stars and now they are out… In any case Sten and I are getting our sounds together and want to keep this thing alive!
virtually everywhere
No year has flied yet like this one. The frost days seem to have left us, and someone like marcos and anna turn into true morningbirds, whereas i follow perhaps halfway, depending on the load of awaken hours from the night before.
Meanwhile the silence has spoken, things are happening. I have been preparing for an interview all afternoon with an american software company, and my girlfriend and i are slowly starting to get ready for a weekend in norway. it is her special birthday, and it needs to be taken seriously. i am happy for us to get a little bit of space from everything as well.
came across maggie’s blog recently, and found some funny clips of me and my classmates on youtube. but it was really cool to see how active a blogger she is, and how that becomes so meaningful in hindsight. so i better catch up.
i’ve spent a few sneak hours looking into the group digital fabrications on flickr and found some awesome lasercut objects, mostly crossing into jewellry section. i have so much i would love to get into. it seems there is not time for anything anymore. i feel like i want destiny to form the future.
i still have a little hope that north kindom would be interested in having me as an intern, but i rather focus on those that sent me reply. there is much west it seems. next post from oslo i think. bye

The snow is back in Umeå tonight, which by a tender force is capturing the feeling of mid December. I wish I was back in those days. Anna made the most delicate chocolates. There was magical lights by the river. We could release our bonds to time for a while. We spent some time alone in the apartment; well now that things have changed so much, with Juan (Lisa´s boyfriend) having moved into the apartment. We had tickets to Norway succeeded by a short trip to London for New Year´s. Those are precious times, and I am bound to think about it at greater scale when the images are sensed.
By the fireplace at home in Norway. Long nights with the whistle of the flame and the warmth of our chins.

Later, in January, celebrating my 25th birthday. I had hope Marcos and Ricardo would come but I suppose I should blame the short notice of what would happen. Anna and I had very decent chinese dinner, followed by some cocktails at invitto, but summarized at bishops arm to extend the birthday flame to maggie, who had birthday the next day.

inside the lives of..
So I refound this delby blog that sheds light on the photographic venture of documenting others and their belongings and sharing it with the whole world. The idea by itself would blow a cold wind over a few but in this age of exposure there is less to frown upon. The guy has been a guest of many, some of which are familiar faces to many. There are a series of posts about the personalities, whereas most of the documentation revolves around the home itself and the artifacts that define the environment.
I don’t know why, but I get the feeling that the guy is some kind of woody allen, who just by an exquisite and humble character invites the ease of opening up the world that shapes some of their being. The blog has a particularily cool style due to its analogue, sketchy feel. The photographic interest lies in the subject itself, not in the manner they are taken. Here are some samples. I thought my girlfriend would fancy a shoe wardrobe second to this.

Probably the most interesting email I’ve received so far. “Make strange inexplicable gesture”. Amazing how many spelling mistakes their website had.

My girlfriend reminds me that I am out of date with my posts, and that is a reality that cannot be denied. I would love to give a solid update but I feel like there is never enough time around, for doing all that deserves being done. It´s been a lovely afternoon here with Anna today. Pancakes and summer temperatures and the company of Bella and Sebastian (my cat), with an ever so slow rleationship building. Latest photoshoot:

a little update on what’s going on. working with terry on this fashion interaction exercise. we have been soldering and sewing LED’s into a scarf, that will be connected to an arduino that will be controlled be bend sensors. it’s kind of tricky given the fragility that the metallic thread easily bumps into it’s counterpart and as such blocks the electricity to pass through. the idea is to activate the leds with this old school belt we wear over our shirts/tops. it’s like i say, we are indiscrete magicians. it’s still work in progress. been trying to be tight on the documentation from now on.
imagination is king

probably one of the best resource url´s i´ve come across the last years. also recommend butdoesitfloat and ffffound I could probably spend a whole weekend navigating the content. imagination is king. back to work now.
